Ice Fishing in Sweden: Ivan’s Story
Hello guys,
I want to share a great story from my friend, Ivan from Sweden, about his experience with my lures. I hope you enjoy it as I enjoyed 🙂Here is his story and great catch:
Hi, my name is Ivan, and I’d like to share my experience of ice fishing in Sweden, where I’ve been relying on Vados21 jigs for several years now. This season, I’ve been heading out almost every weekend to fish around Stockholm or within a 200-300 km radius. Occasionally, we travel further to Storuman, though we haven’t made it there yet this year.
Fishing Locations and Conditions
The season started for us on December 7, when the first lakes opened. We fish at varying depths, ranging from 1.5 to 18 meters. The weather changes a lot during the winter — sometimes it’s freezing, sometimes there’s rain mixed with snow, or it’s sunny and windy. In my experience, the best bite happens during light snowfall or rain. Windy days are less productive, but we’ve never gone home empty-handed this season.
Lures, Gear, and the Catch
This season, my undisputed favorite has been the “Bright Green Tropic” jig by Vados21. Using it, I caught 17 trout and 4 Arctic char! Another jig that has performed well is the “Pink Beacon”, with which I landed one char and one trout.
For trout, I usually fish without a flasher, especially when the ice is thin. When there’s heavy snow on the ice, I use a small flasher with a light, but no spinner. For char, I always combine the jig with a flasher, adding a small piece of shrimp or a couple of maggots as bait.
I’d also like to highlight the quality of Vados21 jigs. Recently, during one fishing trip, my favorite “Bright Green Tropic” got caught in a snag. While pulling it out, I accidentally bent the hook. I had to fix it with pliers, but guess what? The hook turned out to be incredibly strong and didn’t break, even under such stress! After that, I caught 4 more Arctic char with the same jig. I’m now planning to test the blue jig and am confident it will perform just as well.
Fishing Activity and Results
The bite varies from trip to trip. For example, on one outing, I caught seven fish in a day using the “Bright Green Tropic”, while other anglers didn’t catch anything at all. Overall, about 70% of the fish I’ve caught this season were thanks to Vados21 jigs.
By the way, baiting is prohibited in most Swedish lakes. It’s only allowed in Storuman, but we haven’t been there this season. So every catch is the result of well-selected gear and lures — and, of course, a little luck!
Final Thoughts
This season’s fishing has already given me plenty of great memories. Vados21 jigs are the perfect combination of efficiency and durability. They perform exceptionally well in a wide range of conditions. Even when the weather isn’t ideal, fishing with these jigs is always a pleasure.
